PORTAGE, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Two brothers were airlifted to a hospital after their father lost control of his SUV and flipped it over on Interstate 94 near Portage, Ind., Tuesday afternoon.
Richard and Salvador Parmo were flown with severe internal and head injuries to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn after their father swerved to avoid a vehicle merging into their lane, police said. He lost control of their SUV after over-correcting his steering, police said.
Richard, 18, was partially ejected from the SUV and had to be extricated from the vehicle, Indian State police said in a release.
Salvador, 23, was ejected from a rear seat in the vehicle and was found laying in the roadway after the crash, which occurred about 2: 38 p.m., police said.
The father of the two brothers, Salvadore Parmo Sr., is from Shelby Township, Mich. The family was traveling eastbound on the interstate about two miles from Portage when the accident occurred, police said.
All eastbound I-94 lanes were shut down until about 4 p.m., police said.
