CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The brother of Jesse Jackson Jr. says he will not run for the congressional seat that's been his family for 17 years.

Jonathan Jackson is a business professor at Chicago State University and has worked his father's Rainbow PUSH coalition.

He says he thought about running for the seat his brother resigned from, but then decided no.

"I'm not running for the 2nd Congressional District Seat at this time," Jonathan told FOX 32 News. "It's not something that I had anticipated. I wanted to put my brother and his efforts and right now I choose to assist him, take care of him and his family as well."

Jackson Jr.'s wife Sandi says she will also not run.

A special primary is scheduled for February 26th.
