PALATINE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three children were hospitalized with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck hit a school bus in northwest suburban Palatine.

Ignacio Gonzolez-Perez crashed the Nissan Frontier he was driving into a school bus about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday near Frontage Road and Bayside Drive in Palatine Township, Cook County Sheriff's police spokesman Frank Bilecki said.

The District 15 bus had 25 children onboard and three were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, according to a release from the Palatine Fire Department. All three were treated and released, Bilecki said.

Gonzolez-Perez was treated and released from Northwest Community Hospital, Bilecki said.

Gonzolez-Perez was attempting to make a left turn from Bayside Drive on Frontage Road but cut off a northbound school bus in the process, Bilecki said. Gonzolez-Perez, 35, of the 1500 block of Winslowe Drive in Palatine, was cited for not having a driver's license and given a Jan. 3, 2013, court date in Rolling Meadows.

The Frontier had to be towed from the scene, Bilecki said.

The Palatine Fire Department responded with an engine, a squad, two ambulances and a shift commander. The Long Grove Fire Department assisted with one ambulance.
