Two Little Village men were charged with attempted murder of two Chicago Police officers after they allegedly opened fire on the officers Tuesday night on the Southwest Side.
Officers approached Giovanni Velez and Jose Sosa, both 22, about 7:20 p.m. in the 2600 block of West 23rd Place, police said. Velez produced a handgun and fired at the officers and the two fled the scene and were apprehended a short time later with a gun.
No officers were wounded, and police did not return fire, police said.
Velez, of 2000 block of West Cermak Road, was charged with two felony counts of attempted first degree murder, two felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer and one felony count of armed habitual criminal.
Sosa, of the 2600 block of West 24th Place, was charged with two felony counts of attempted first degree murder, two felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer and one misdemeanor count of possession of cannabis - less than 2.5 grams.
Both men were expected to appear in Central Bond Court at 2600 S. California Ave. on Thursday, according to police.
