Illinois universities risk credit downgrades

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Moody's is threatening to downgrade the credit ratings of a number of Illinois universities because of cash flow problems, which could cost you money.

The University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University and almost every other state university is included on the watch list.

Moody's says the universities depend too much on state aid for operating funds and faces continued pressure from employee pension and health care costs.

The threatened downgrade could force the schools to push through yet another round of tuition increases.
