Will the Mayan apocalypse end our world?

ATLANTA -

We've been hearing about 12-21-2012 for quite some time. It's the date some think the world will end, and they base that dire prediction on the Mayan calendar.

A report on Space.com says that the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, and some have taken that to mean that the world will end on that date. Scientists with NASA and universities say that won't happen.

Stuart Charme, a Rutgers-Camden professor of religion, says if the event doesn't happen, doomsayers will just pick a new date.

For those that want a front seat to the event -- should it happen -- you can go to http://events.slooh.com/. According to space.com, Slooh will webcast live footage from observatories in Arizona and the Canary Islands, exploring different end of the world possibilities until the main event on Friday.

Jell-O is also getting in the Mayan mood, by asking Americans what they would like to do on the off chance the world will end. Twelve entries will be selected randomly through December 20 to win $100 to use toward completing their bucket list. All you have to do to enter is follow @JELLO at twitter.com/JELLO, tweet @JELLO with hashtag #funpocalypse and share what you'd like to cross off your bucket list if the world ends by Friday.
