HARVARD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A middle school student in northwest suburban Harvard was charged with disorderly conduct Wednesday after he brought spent shell casings to school to show his friends, police said.

The 12-year-old brought three spent shell casings with him on the bus and into school, a release from Harvard police said. When he realized he had lost one of the casings on the bus, he discarded the other casings at the school.

The bus driver found the lost casing and staff at the junior high found the others in a boy's bathroom, the release said.

Harvard Community School District 50 locked down all schools while they searched for any other suspicious items, the release said. All students were kept in their classrooms while the search was conducted.

The student was taken to the police department, where he was processed and release to a parent.

The boy got the .30-caliber shell casings from home, where they were kept after they were bought at an exhibition, the release said.
