A 17-year-old valley girl has received an early Christmas present -- a new liver. But what makes her transplant operation so special is that her donor is still alive.
Centennial High School senior Danielle Rodriguez is the first person in more than 20 years to receive a pediatric liver transplant in Phoenix.
Danielle says it's like being sick for a really long time and then suddenly feeling better.
"It's like I never had anything like this. I feel different and better and free," she says.
Danielle and her donor are doing fine. Doctors say their livers will regenerate in about three weeks. Both are out of the hospital.
