Closer look at Lhota mayoral bid

The race for NYC mayor is taking shape. GDNY spoke with political analysts Jeanne Zaino and Basil Smikle on Thursday, the day after MTA chairman Joe Lhota threw his hat into the ring.

"He has an uphill battle. He's never run for office before. It's a heck of job to run for your first time out," said Zaino.

"It's going to be interesting because he's also the Governor's appointee. Does he say I work for the governor? We have to balance budgets? He can take it to the Democrats: I know how to balance budgets; I know how to run a vast, complicated system. He was the deputy mayor of operations during Mayor Giuliani," said Smikle.

Lhota, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, will resign at the end of the year, according to a statement from the MTA.

Lhota has submitted his letter of resignation to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. His resignation is effective at the end of the day on December 31, 2012.

The future is here when it comes to vehicles. The auto industry has packed nearly 1,000 automobiles into the Jacob Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side for the 2014 NY Auto Show.   Among the 'must-sees' is a hydrogen-powered vehicle and a prototype with cameras that allow you to see the ground underneath as you drive over it.

“I was supposed to be dead before last Easter," said Valerie Harper about her diagnosis of cancer in the lining around her brain.  Harper's indomitable spirit and the support from fans of her character 'Rhoda' in the 1970s hit series 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' has kept her going. "It’s a tasty headline," said Harper about the magazine where the inaccurate report was made.
