On Thursday's Chat Room, Sun-Times Splash Editor Susanna Negovan and consultant Rochelle Trotter spoke about copy-cat crimes and managing holiday stress.
With the recent massacre in Newton, Connecticut, many wonder if we should fear a wave of copycat crimes based on the amount of media attention focused on the shooter.
Susanna thinks there is a balance that must exist between the media reporting the crime details along with not glorifying the killer, which could incite a mentally unstable person to try and duplicate the crime. Rochelle believes that while there is anecdotal data which suggests a correlation between media attention given to a crime and copy-cats, there is no hard research to support that position.
On to a lighter topic, managing holiday stress! With Christmas around the corner many are overwhelmed with last minute "to do" lists and the joy is being taken OUT of the season.
Susanna focuses her shopping efforts on those less fortunate in her life and that helps her manage the amount of gifting required. Rochelle has learned to delegate and focus more on the family time aspect of the holiday season vs. having the perfect house setup or all gift shopping done.
Happy Holidays to you and yours from the Chat Room team!
