Police say a man accused of murdering his ex-wife has been arrested in Union City. John Kristofak, 58, was wanted for the stabbing death of 48-year-old Donna Nations Kristofak, and he had been on the run since Saturday.
Authorities from the Cobb County Sheriff's Department, the Union City Police, and U.S. Marshals arrested Kristofak at around 4 a.m. at a Motel 6 in Union City after an extensive manhunt that started on December 23. They say Kristofak struggled briefly with police before being taken into custody, and that a firearm was found during a search of his motel room.
Cobb County police believe Donna Kristofak was killed at her home on Saturday. According to the criminal warrant, John Kristofak entered the garage at her Marietta home and stabbed once her in the upper torso. Donna Kristofak was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries.
Cobb County Jail officials won't say exactly how or where he is being detained in their facility, but they say their mental health staff has been notified of Kristofak's arrival and he is in an area where he can be observed.
That could be a reaction to a comment he made in an email to a newspaper reporter earlier this week.
Kristofak is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault. A judge denied bond to him on Thursday evening.
