Ga. couple upset over proposed Russian adoption ban

A local couple is worried about what the proposed Russian adoption ban will mean for the future of their family.

Ann and Kurt Suhs already have one son they adopted from Russia in 2007. They applied last February to adopt a second child. They aren't sure where that stands after Russian President Vladimir Putin says he will sign a bill to ban Americans from adopting Russian children.

The Suhs told FOX News on Thursday that the news is devastating.

"So even in the best of circumstances, you don't get the love and security that a permanent home brings to a child, and these children, who have already been passed over by Russian families and are now available for international adoption, and these 46 that have already been touched and hugged by families, and they're waiting to go back and get these children. These children will lose that. They won't get the love and attention and stimulation they need just to develop normally as children," said Ann Suhs.

The bill is part of a larger measure by RUSSIAN lawmakers to retaliate against a recently signed U.S. law calling for sanctions against Russians deemed guilty of human rights violations.

For years, the United States has been the top destination for adopted Russian children.
