Victims in Beltway crash were heading to funeral

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, Va. -

State police say an 87-year-old Pennsylvania man was behind the wheel of a pickup truck that rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the Capital Beltway -- killing him and his two passengers.

Police identified the victims Friday as 87-year-old Peter Stesney, 85-year-old Bernice Supinski and 51-year-old Laura Kordelski. Police say three were related and heading to Florida to attend the funeral of a relative. Stesney and Kordelski were from Allentown, Penn., and Supinski was from Bath, Penn.

Police say the tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic when the pickup truck driven by Stesney crashed into it from behind. All three died at the scene. The crash occurred Wednesday evening on the ramp from Interstate 495 to southbound I-95 at the Springfield interchange. The ramp was closed for about 8 hours.
