The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the Christmas 2011 beating of a black man outside a bar in Oak Creek.

61-year-old Marvel Warren was assaulted in the parking lot of the Full Moon Saloon, in the village of Oak Creek, about 2 a.m. Dec. 25, 2011.

The victim told deputies he was leaving the saloon when a young man began yelling racial slurs at him, regarding the fact he had contact with a white female in the bar. Warren's friend tried to intervene and was pushed by the suspect's friend.

The suspect then attacked Warren, knocking him to the ground, and punching him in the face, according to YCSO.

During the barrage, the suspect yelled the "N" word after each blow.

Deputies interviewed witnesses, but many of them "forgot" details and names. Over the next few months, detectives worked diligently to track down other witnesses and re-interview everyone.

YCSO says that some of them began to have better recall, realizing intentional deception could result in criminal charges.

Detectives were eventually able to pin down 25-year-old Logan Spude as the suspect. One year later, on Christmas Day 2012, detectives discovered Spude was already in custody on unrelated charges, being held without bond.

Spude is now facing additional charges of aggravated assault, intentional injury to another, and disorderly conduct.
