Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash that sent a man to the hospital and forced the evacuation of several northwest Atlanta homes after a car crashed into the side of a house.
Police say the driver, Ray Roberts has been charged with DUI, failure to maintain lanes, and reckless driving after the accident which took the car over a fence through a couple of yards and into the side of 70 Burbank Drive in northwest Atlanta just after 7 p.m. Sunday.
Family members say a man inside that home was rushed to the hospital after the kitchen sink hit him. Another man inside was struck by a table, but suffered only minor injuries.
The car also took out the home's gas meter causing several homes in the area to be evacuated until fire officials could get the gas leak under control.
Roberts was transported to Grady Hospital, and his condition is not known. Police say he was placed under arrest at the hospital.
Residents were allowed back into their homes after a couple of hours.
The family who lives in the home had to find another place to stay Sunday night. They will have the damage inspected on Monday morning to see if they can continue to live in the home during the repairs.
