WATERVLIET, N.Y. (AP) - A state court judge has rejected a lawsuit aimed at stopping the demolition of an Albany-area church to make way for a Price Chopper supermarket.
The Albany Times-Union reports that Supreme Court Justice Kimberly O'Connor ruled that a grassroots group called the Citizens for St. Patrick's has no standing to bring the case. The group wants to stop the $1 million sale of a historic former church in Watervliet (water-VLEET').
O'Connor said she followed the state's Religious Corporation Law and the Not for Profit Corporation Law when she approved the sale by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.
