A woman gave birth to a baby inside a Walmart in Commerce on Wednesday. The child was the first baby born in Banks County in 2013.
The 37-year-old woman was 8 months pregnant and shopping in the store when the baby decided to come early.
First responders raced to the store. When the EMTs arrived, they said+ they didn't know what they would be walking into. They rushed to the bathrooms only to find that the baby boy had already been born.
""All we had to do was cut the umbilical cord." said EMT Scotty Mathis.
They said the mother seemed healthy but was worried.
The baby boy was already swaddled in his first Walmart product.
"Walmart management staff actually did a great job. They already had the baby warmed up in blankets," said Mathis.
Walmart shoppers were surprised that the first baby born in Banks County of 2013 was born in the local Walmart.
"I guess they had clean-up on aisle five," said Harlan Lovelace.
Banks County Fire Chief Brian Eubanks has been checking on mom and baby throughout the day and says they are both healthy and doing well.
