A 73-year-old woman is accused of hitting a young boy with her car in Deltona. She was arrested a short time later. If not for an alert witness, police might still be looking for a driver.
The boy is ok, but there are some lessons to be learned.
Eddie Sims, 8, was racing his brother on a scooter near the busy intersection of Ft. Smith Blvd. and W. Hyde when he was struck by a car. Witnesses said the driver took off, leaving Eddie bleeding in the middle of the road. He said he remembered very little, except that the woman didn't stop.
An alert witness saw that two teenagers were helping Eddie, so he followed the driver of a Chevy Impala. When she finally stopped, she told police that one of Eddie's friends said he was ok, so she drove off.
Eddie's mother said the driver, Rosa Aiezza, never got out of the car, which is why she decided to press charges.
