LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A custodian emptying trash cans at Downtown Disney discovered what appeared to be three hand grenades, a spokesman with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
An investigation revealed that the grenades were hollowed out and posed no threat. They were removed and taken to a second location for safety measures, according to Jeff Williamson with the Sheriff's Office.
The grenades appear to have been used for training of some type, Williamson said. Officials aren't sure how the grenade casings ended up in the trash. The Orlando Sentinel reported that the grenades were found in a parking lot only accessible to employees.
