The holidays are over, but the fun of 2013 is just beginning. If you're in the mood to dance at the Chicago Cultural Center, laugh at local comics, ice skate at Navy Pier or jump into Lake Michigan this weekend, Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad has you covered.

Freezin' for a Reason Missed the New Year's Day plunge? Jump into Lake Michigan to benefit Project Rescue Chicago, which rescues abandoned dogs and finds them new homes, then join fellow dog lovers at a nearby pub for drink specials and prizes. The event raised more than $20,000 last year. Note: Humans only at this event. Foster Avenue Beach, 5200 N Lake Shore Dr (312-623-0939, firstgiving.com/projectrescue/freezin-for-a-reason). 10:15am. $25; pre-registration required.

Winter Wonderfest Christmas is over, but the annual extravaganza is still going strong at Navy Pier. Ride the Ferris wheel or wait in line for new attraction Zero Gravity. Other amusements include video games, ice skating, gingerbread workshops and inflatables.
