Deputies: Bullet grazed clerk’s head during robbery

Posted: Updated:

Deputies say a motel front-desk clerk dodged a big bullet during a robbery Monday morning in Ruskin.

It happened at the Ruskin Inn at 3113 East College Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

According to the sheriff's office, someone called clerk Shanna Borovich and complained about noise outside the hotel early in the morning. She went outside to check on it, and the robbery suspect confronted her.

Deputies say the man told her to start walking toward the nearby woods, and as she was, she heard him fire gunshots. One of the bullets grazed her head.

The man then went inside and took a safe from the motel.

The sheriff's office says it captured video of the suspect. Detectives released still images showing the suspect in a black hoodie with white lettering, wearing blue jeans. They say he is a white male, about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet and has a medium build. His face was covered and he was wearing black gloves.

The victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital, and deputies say she was alert at the time.
