Tips to organize your home

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Lindsay Hunt from Real Simple magazine came to Good Day New York with some tips to organize your home in the new year.

Here are her tips:

KITCHEN

In every area of the kitchen, the idea is to declutter first – get rid of or store anything you don't use often enough – and then find a smart way to organize.

For decluttering, a few easy areas to start with are your appliances and cookbooks: You probably have more than you really need, so get rid of anything you never use, and move everything else that is used infrequently away from the prime real estate – think separate closets and low cabinets. As for your pantry, we recommend keeping like things together: tomato paste and jars of sauce next to clear, spill-proof canisters of pasta, the corkscrew next to the wine rack, etc.

BATHROOM

Even though we access the medicine cabinet every day, it's easy for it to become a forgotten space. It can easily fill up with expired prescriptions, empty band-aid boxes, and unfamiliar items. It's important to use this storage space wisely by keeping everything current and stocked – it's the best way to prepare for an emergency. You can do this task in under an hour, and it's the first step toward an organized bathroom.

MEDICINE CABINET- Empty and purge, Take inventory, Group items together

BEDROOM

Having a near, organized closet is a great start for organizing your bedroom. It simplifies your life and makes it easier to get dressed every morning. We first recommend having slim hangers in all one color – it saves a lot of space Pick a time when you're switching your wardrobe over for the season, and pull out items for donation that you don't wear anymore. Once you're left with your current items, you can get to organizing. Here are our three easy steps.
