A man is dead and a woman was injured after a SUV spun out of control and struck a car Monday in unincorporated Batavia.
The crash occurred about 9 a.m. on Route 25 near Banbury Drive, according to release from the Kane County Sheriff's office.
A 2005 Ford Expedition was traveling north on Route 25 when it spun out of control after hitting a curve, the sheriff's office said. The Expedition then crossed into the southbound lane of Route 25 and struck a 2005 Honda Accord before it went off the road and flipped onto its roof.
The driver and sole occupant of the Expedition -- Karl Smith, 45, of the 600 block of Marion Avenue in St. Charles -- was removed form the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
The driver and sole occupant of the Accord was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.
It is unknown if drugs, alcohol or speed may have played a role in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
