Atlanta firefighter injured in blaze

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Authorities say a firefighter was injured as crews battled a blaze in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Officials say the fire may have started in the attic of the home located near the intersection of Copeland Avenue and Cascade Avenue. They say the homeowner had just returned to the home when he discovered the fire.

He was able to get out safely.

Atlanta Fire Chief Glenn Riley told FOX 5 the blaze was hard to fight because they were unable to quickly shut off the electricity to the home. He says he believes something electrical may have started the fire in the attic.

The injured firefighter was struck while taking a pole from a fire truck. He was transported to Grady Hospital with a cut to the face, and is expected to be released today.
