Homicide detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are reopening a 2011 murder investigation, in which a Navy reservist was gunned down. It has been 14 months since Jeffrey Guzman Perez was fatally shot in South Orlando. Over a year later, detectives still have no leads in the cold case. Now, they are asking for help from the public. "He was loved by everyone, everywhere he went, because of who he was," said the victim's father, Roberto Guzman.Guzman Perez was just 22 on the night he was murdered, November 5, 2011. He had just dropped his girlfriend off at a house on Rivo Alto Drive when masked men approached him and shot him dead."They have destroyed not only a life -- Jeffrey's life -- but also the whole family," Guzman said.Orange County deputies are baffled by the case and say Guzman Perez was truly an innocent victim. "This was not, in any way, a person involved in any criminal activity," said Guzman. "He was simply, as the detectives have described, in the wrong place at the wrong time."To this day, no one has been arrested, despite a $5,000 reward."It's frustrating that the community hasn't come forward," said Cpl. Dave Nutting, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. It's frustrating for his family too, who beg for someone to come forward as they continue struggling with what happened all these months later."We the family are just asking for justice and closure," Guzman said.Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477), or the Orange County Sheriff's Office Homicide Squad at 407-254-7000, extension 70538..
