ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -
An 18-year-old from St. Petersburg made one final mistake while playing with a gun Wednesday night.
Police say Alexander Xavier Shaw – surrounded by friends and family – accidentally fatally shot himself in the head at 733 71 Avenue North.
According to the people at the home, Shaw had been showing his friends that the gun was safe. He placed it to his head and pulled the trigger, discharging a bullet, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Shaw's uncle and grandparents were also at the home.
The gun was a .38 caliber revolver.
Last year, Shaw's father, Richard, was murdered in a home invasion, police said. Shaw was at the home at the time of the incident.
