Tri-Cities orchestra to play at prestigious festival

EAST POINT, Ga. -

The Tri-Cities High School orchestra is packing their bags and gearing up for an important performance. They will be in the nation's capital during the inaugural weekend, attending the prestigious Worldstrides Heritage Festival.

"It's such an overwhelming experience. It's a lot to take in. But it's also very exciting. I'm very excited to go," said 10th grade student Brejhe Halls.

While the president is attending galas and preparing to be sworn in, the students will be performing for the world's top musicians at the festival. They've already set their playlist: the second movement of Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, and Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings.

The orchestra has a beautiful sound, and the kids are excited that music and history will come together during this important weekend.

"Very excited. Never been to D.C. before, and then to play my instrument, even better," said 11th grade student Isaiah Anderson.

Halls says the trip should be a wonderful experience.

Though the Tri-Cities band has been all over the world, this is the first time the orchestra has had the opportunity to leave the state.

The students plan on leaving next week. They've been raising money to cover the cost of the trip - but they're still a little short. If you'd like to help fill in the financial gap, donations can be made at Tri-Cities High School in the Magnet Performing Arts Building at 2575 Harris Street in East Point.
