Mom Who Brought Gun To School Held On $200K Bail

PHILADELPHIA -

The 21-year-old woman who was allegedly carrying a loaded gun in a diaper bag when she went to a Philadelphia high school is being held on bail set at $200,000, according to the district attorney's office.

Police say Kelly Jones was signing up for night classes Thursday at South Philadelphia High School with her baby and a friend when her diaper bag went through the screener.

Officers saw what appeared to be a gun. They searched further and found a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun, police said.

Jones told officers she did not know how the weapon got there.

Police say no students or teachers were ever in danger.

We were also told the gun's serial number was scratched off and Jones did not have a license to carry it.

The DA's office has charged Jones with five firearms violations, including possession of a firearm with an altered serial number and having weapon on school property.

Jones next faces a Jan. 29. preliminary hearing.
