HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (WJBK) -- A 21-year-old rape victim left her Hamtramck home around 6:15 p.m. Thursday near Grand Haven and Woodland and was walking to the store to get some milk for her little boy when a man rode up on a bike behind her.
"I just heard a man ask me like 'why are you walking like you lost your best friend?' I didn't look up. I didn't do [anything]. He said, 'Turn around.'"
She didn't turn around, but she heard him drop his bike and come at her.
"He grabbed me by my ponytail, like 'I said turn around.'"
"He told me if I scream or anything he's going to blow my head off. Close my eyes."
He had a gun. He took her behind her house, shoved her up against a fence and forced her to perform oral sex on him. As if that wasn't bad enough, he wasn't done assaulting her yet.
"That's when I felt my ponytail just drop."
That's right, her ponytail, her long hair gone just like that. She said he cut her hair right off and took it with him.
"He took my bra and my panties and my hair."
She said the rapist told her not to move. She stood there naked in the cold hoping he was gone. Finally she grabbed her phone and called for help.
The suspect is described as a black man in his twenties, light skin, thin mustache, wearing a skull cap, a hood and a blue jacket. He was riding a dark gray bike.
The victim said he had a deep, raspy voice and reeked of beer.
"We have to do something because it's happening everywhere. Not just in Hamtramck, but everywhere in the city of Detroit, and it's young boys who [are] doing it. Like why?" said Monique, the victim's mother.
Why and how do we stop it? Monique is warning women not to walk alone and asking anyone with information to call police right away.
"You want to look out and watch your surroundings everywhere, but there's somebody on a bike in Hamtramck that's raping young girls and everybody needs to be aware."
