Police: Suspect Attempts To Place Stolen Police Bikes On SEPTA Bus

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police were able to locate two stolen police bicycles that investigators say were taken by a suspect who attempted to place them on a SEPTA bus Saturday night.

Police say the bikes were stolen from a pole on the 100 block of S. 17th Street around 8:15 p.m.

A SEPTA bus driver noticed a suspect place the two bicycles on the front of his bus. When the suspect entered the bus, police say the driver asked about the bikes, causing the suspect to exit the bus and remove the bikes.

Police say the suspect then headed to a nearby subway entrance.

SEPTA police later found the bikes at the street level and also found the saddle bags that were attached to the bikes.

Police describe the suspect as a black man, between 47-50 years of age with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black "Kango hat," a black coat, black pants and a white shirt.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
