Wood pieces from The Senator no longer available, officials say - FOX 35 News Orlando

Pieces of wood from the historic baldcypress tree The Senator are no longer available "due to overwhelming response," Seminole County officials say.

"The demand for pieces of this local icon has exceeded the amount of wood available," said Jim Duby in a statement.

Earlier, county officials had offered pieces of wood from the ancient tree to the public, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Senator was one of the world's most ancient trees, estimated at least 3,500 years old, and had a diameter of almost 18 feet. It was a longtime tourist attraction at Big Tree Park near Longwood. It was destroyed by fire a year ago today.

Sara Barnes is awaiting trial on charges she set the fire that torched and brought down The Senator, the Sentinel reported.
