OCOEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
In an asphalt strip-mall parking lot off West Colonial Drive in Ocoee, a band has played just about every Friday night for the past 23 years.
Moonlite Express has recorded several CDs, but Friday nights are reserved for their bluegrass jams. Sitting on chairs next to their cars, the band members play deep into the night, sometimes till 2 a.m.
"The love of the music" keeps them coming out, said banjo player Jack Lewis.
The jam is open, meaning other "pickers," or musicians, can join in as long as there's "no drums and no alcohol," Lewis said.
"Sometimes there's as many as 70 to 80 people sitting around listening. And we get a lot of pickers, too. Sometimes as many as 12-15 pickers," he said.
Moonlite Express plays at 6:30 p.m. every Friday night at 10908 W. Colonial Drive, Ocoee.
