Seaside Heights To Rebuild Its Iconic Boardwalk

Posted: Updated:
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. -

New Jersey's famous Seaside Heights boardwalk is about to be rebuilt in time for Memorial Day weekend following its destruction from Hurricane Sandy last October.

The city awarded a $3.6-million contract to start work on the mile long boardwalk.

The contract approved Wednesday just covers replacement of the boards and the substructure beneath it. But a future contract will include ramps, railings and a protective sea wall.

The work should be done May 10.

Seaside Heights is the second major boardwalk to start rebuilding. Belmar started construction last week.
