Central Michigan University police say 30-year-old Eric Ramsey, a convicted felon from Mount Pleasant, used a gun to force a woman into her own vehicle. He took her to a home off-campus where she was bound with tape and raped.
The victim, a senior at CMU, was later forced back into her vehicle...along with two cans of gasoline.
Ramsey told the victim he was going to kill her and that's when she jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran to a nearby home yelling for help. Residents let her inside, locked the door, and called 9-1-1.
"While she was doing that, the male ended up parking the car and ended up coming up to the residence also. He ended up using the two gas cans and spraying the house with gas. He then lit the house on fire. Fortunately, he had left right after that. Fortunately, one of the homeowners did come home and was able to put out the fire before too much damage was done," says Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski.
Ramsey took off in the victim's vehicle. He was then involved in a chase with Michigan State Police and rammed several cruisers before stealing a garbage truck and taking off. He made it 85 miles north of the campus.
"A Crawford County Sheriff's deputy spotted the vehicle and turned around and actually a sanitation truck tried to ram head on. In fact, he did make contact with the deputy's car. At that point the Crawford County deputy got out of the car and started firing at the lone individual in the car. He was fatally wounded," says Sheriff Mioduszewski.
Before he was killed, Ramsey posted on facebook-- "Well folks, I'm about to get shot. Peace."
