You can still see the crime scene tape, marking clearly the Eustis Apartment Complex on North Eustis Street. According to police, this is where 36-year-old Yolanda Walker allegedly had her own son break into storage units belonging to neighbors.
Police said nearly $10,000 worth of items were stolen, including talking toys and electronics
Walker is spending another night at the Lake County Jail behind bars, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, burglary, and theft. A police report states that Walker had the 10-year-old boy try to "jimmy the lock" on an apartment door using a butter knife and screwdriver.
"It baffles me that a parent would do something like that!" said Officer Robert Simken with the Eustis Police Department. "We're teaching our children to do bad things, and that is going to grow into other bad things!"
The boy told police he would stand on chairs, with bricks, so he could see through the windows.
Walker's bond is set at $7,500. The ten-year-old is staying with an aunt. The Florida Department of Children and Family Services and the courts will decide what happens to him next.
