Near-freezing temperatures made some metro area roadways very slick during Friday morning's commute. Icy road conditions sent a tractor trailer and another car off the road on Interstate 20 in Atlanta.
According to police, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near the Langhorn Street exit. They say a woman in an SUV slid on ice and went off the road into a wooded area. She was shaken, but not injured.
A tractor trailer also slid on the ice, and was able to pull over.
Authorities in Cherokee County say all southbound lanes on Interstate 575 at Hickory Flat Highway were shut down due to ice for a few hours. The lanes have since been reopened.
Georgia Department of Transportation crews were out salting and scraping some roads to the keep them ice free during the early morning hours. The icy road conditions diminished as the sun rose, and temperatures climbed above freezing.
