Bond was set on Friday at $750,000 for a 61-year-old West Side man charged with beating and sexually assaulting a female acquaintance in her home this week.
After hearing a woman screaming for help from the home in the 1800 block of South Kedzie Avenue on Thursday, officers from the Ogden District Mission Team, who were responding to a call of a sexual assault, broke through a door and found the man on top of a woman, punching her in the head.
After forcing their way in, officers opened the unlocked bedroom door, a statement from police said. They found the victim on the bed with Andrew Gayles on top of her, punching her.
Gayles, of the 2700 block of West 25th Street, was charged with battery, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated unlawful restraint, according to police. Police said the woman was an acquaintance of Gayle's.
At a hearing Friday, Cook County Judge James Brown set bond for Gayles at $750,000. His next court date is Feb. 7.
