Fake workers robbing elderly people in the Bronx

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD says three elderly residents have been robbed by thieves who tricked them into letting them into their homes.

One of the suspects fooled a 71-year-old man into believing he was a worker coming to repair a neighbor's fence.  While they were outside a second one allegedly ransacked the victim's home.

Authorities say the thieves are accused of committing other scams. In another incident on January 10, the scammers posed as Department of Environmental Protection workers.

As the couple that lived in the home tested the water in the kitchen and bathroom, the two suspects removed cash from their bedroom dresser and fled the home.

Both crimes have been committed in the Pelham section of the Bronx.

One of the suspects in each incident is described as White or Hispanic male, 25-35 years, 5'10" and 170 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
