HINSDALE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Adventist Midwest Health is prohibiting children from visiting patients at its four area hospitals due to the prevalence of the flu.
Starting Friday, visitors must be 18 or older to visit patients in Adventist's Hinsdale, La Grange Memorial, Bolingbrook and GlenOaks hospitals.
Anyone with flu symptoms or who recently had respiratory symptoms of the flu will not be allowed to visit patients. In addition, no more than two visitors will be allowed in a patient's room at the same time.
The changes are based on recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospital officials explained
"We are putting these changes into effect during this increase in influenza cases in order to keep our staff, patients and community safe," Regional Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Shawn Tyrrell.
"Once this increase in influenza has passed, we will reinstitute our family centered visiting policies."
