Man killed by NJ Transit train

Posted: Updated:

LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Transit says a man was struck and killed by a train in central New Jersey.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday, just north of the Long Branch train station. It's not clear why the man was on the tracks, and authorities say he has not yet been identified.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder tells the Asbury Park Press that none of the 35 passengers aboard the New York-bound New Jersey Coast Line train or its crew were injured.

But the accident did cause train service to be temporarily suspended in both directions between Long Branch and Little Silver, so bus service was provided to shuttle passengers between the stations.
