A pet rescue in Oviedo is raising money so that a puppy, which volunteers say was thrown out of a moving car, can have surgery.
Jessica Jacobs, of Save a Life Pet Rescue, says the 12-week-old Chihuahua mix was treated terribly. "It's very hurtful. I mean how can somebody be so hurtful to an animal that's the size of your foot? Any animal for that matter."
Volunteers have named the dog Hope, inspired by the little animal's will to survive. They drove 8 hours away after finding out what happened to the puppy.
"The Georgia pound gave us a call says you have about 24 hours to pick her up, because we can't afford to fix it," Jacobs said.
The surgery for her leg will cost $6,000. Volunteers are trying to raise money through Facebook and have even created T-shirts to sell.
"In order to fix it correctly, we're going to have to re break it and take care of the procedure that way."
Once Hope has her surgery, it will take 6 to 8 weeks for her to recover. "After her leg is fixed and she's gone through her recovery, and she's fully healed, then we'll start the process for finding her a good home."
So with her bright pink cast, Jessica has faith that Hope will heal from this ordeal and live a happy life. "People are going to be fighting for her."
The group says they're trying to build a new shelter for 50 pets. Anyone interested in donating to help with Hope and the shelter, should visit: http://savealifepetrescue.org/.
