Suspect in fatal Cocoa shooting sought

COCOA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Cocoa police investigators are working two leads and have interviewed twelve eyewitnesses, as they try to catch the person who murdered a woman and wounded another in a double-shooting on Monday.

Twenty-four year old Lydia Bradford was a mother of three young children.  She was planning her daughter's seventh birthday party when she was murdered Monday.  Police say a man stormed into the apartment and shot Bradford in the head.  The suspect also shot her mother, Equaller Marie Bradford, in the head, face and three times in the chest, but she is still alive and hospitalized at a local trauma center.

Police spokeswoman Barbara Matthews says the attack was cold.  "That's just so vicious and so brutal and we just really, really need to catch this person."

A simple bouquet of flowers and an eerie silence Tuesday replaced the chaos of Monday's crime scene.  Neighbors called 911 after the burst of bullets and after Lydia's mom stumbled outside.

At least one eyewitness saw the suspect jump over a nearby fence as he escaped.  Police found a handgun nearby, and they are testing it for DNA and other evidence.  Police say Bradford's three children were inside the apartment, but they ran out before she was shot. The Florida Department of Children and Families is trying to place them with relatives.

The Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy on Tuesday, but the report is not being released yet.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
