VIERA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Parents hoping to convince the Brevard County School Board to vote against closing four schools will get a respite, as the board has elected to delay a decision until next month. School administrators have postponed a vote until February 12.
Voters rejected a half cent sales tax referendum last year, which is why school board members proposed closing the four schools to fill a $30 million budget shortfall.
The schools on the table are Gardendale, Sea Park and South Lake elementariness as well as Clearlake Middle School.
Parents had been preparing for Tuesday night's meeting for over a month now, with several marches and rallies to make the public aware of what's at stake
Representative from each school were expected to give a brief presentation about why their school should remain open.
In the coming weeks, the board may also consider refinancing the district's debt to avoid some of the proposed cuts.
