A man and a woman have been arrested after police found rotten food, dirty clothes, and feces in their Phoenix apartment.
Officers were called to do a welfare check after apartment management received multiple complaints about the strong smell of feces coming from a unit.
Police say the toilet was clogged and almost overflowing and there was an overwhelming smell. They also observed drug paraphernalia and marijuana inside the apartment.
Officers spoke to the residents, 25-year-old Kona Erbe and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Randall Damon Bresaw.
Erbe told detectives that she "gave up" after she lost her job, and said the conditions in her apartment were too much to face. She faces two counts of child abuse.
Bresaw admitted ownership of the marijuana. He is facing 1 count of child abuse, 5 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and 1 count of possession of marijuana.
CPS responded and took custody of Erbe's 3-year-old and 4-year-old children.
Erbe said now that her kids are gone, she can get the help she needs, and can later be a better parent, according to court documents.
