MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (KMSP) -
Maple Grove High School is holding a Thursday afternoon media session on its future plans to address student-athlete conduct in the wake of an investigation into the varsity hockey team that led to multiple player suspensions.
ISD 279-Osseo Area Schools community relations director Barbara Olson called it "an opportunity to learn how Maple Grove Senior High is going to move forward to promote positive leadership and set a higher standard of expectations for student athletes."
An investigation last week led to the suspensions of 13 players for violating the Minnesota State High School League code of conduct. The school said the players violated rules in an incident that happened outside the school, in a private home, in mid-December. Player suspensions ranged from two to four games.
The school district said it consulted with Maple Grove police, but it had no comment on whether any laws were broken or if a criminal investigation could follow. Police previously told FOX 9 News they have no open investigation.
Maple Grove varsity hockey coach Gary Stefano was also suspended, but reinstated after the district closed its investigation.
