POINCIANA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Polk County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Haines City man, suspected of stealing 166 manhole covers from Poinciana subdivision.
Christopher Fink, 40, faces charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and giving false verification to a secondhand metal dealer, all felonies.
The Toho Water Authority reported the covers missing on Wednesday, believed to be have been stolen sometime between January 9th and January 23rd. The area where the thefts occurred is located along Lake Marion Creek Road, and encompasses several side streets. The estimated value of the thefts is over $22,000.
Through their investigation, detectives suspected Fink was responsible for stealing the manhole covers and then attempting to scrap them at area secondhand metal dealers.
