ORANGE (CNS) - A motorist who drove through a closed road at a construction site in Whittier and refused to pull over led police today on a nearly one-hour chase through parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties that ended when California Highway Patrol officers forced the suspect's SUV into a spinout.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital for treatment of superficial, apparently self-inflicted stab wounds, according to the CHP.
"When they realized he was stabbing himself, for his own safety they decided they needed to end the pursuit as quickly as possible," said CHP Officer Todd Kovaletz.
The pursuit started just before 11 a.m. in Whittier and moved into Orange County, winding through Brea, Anaheim and finally ending in Orange, said CHP Officer Armando Garcia.
The man went through red lights but did not drive at excessive speeds during the chase. At one point, while the driver was on Collins Avenue near Main Street in Orange, he briefly stopped, but then drove off again. As the driver neared the end of Collins Avenue, he turned the silver Honda CRV around and officers kept pursuing him.
CHP officers halted the pursuit with a PIT maneuver on Prospect Avenue just north of Chapman Avenue and the suspect was taken into custody, Garcia said.

Certain projects, such as adding a well thought-out family room can be a wise investment, as they do add to the value of the home. Other projects, however, allow little opportunity to recover the costs when it's time to sell.
