WASHINGTON -
It is the ultimate match up, the ultimate game. The winners play for bragging rights about being the best team in the NFL.
Hundreds of millions of viewers tune into the game, attend parties, and engage in the general festivities. For some it is the only football game they will watch this year. For others, they are just tuning in for the commercials.
But whether or not you root for the San Francisco 49ers or the Baltimore Ravens, most will agree getting up the next morning to go to work is quite hard.
This is why football fans are banding together to try to get the White House to do something about it. They want to declare the Monday following the Super Bowl a national holiday thus allowing those millions of Americans a day to recuperate following the big game.
The 4for4.com Fantasy Football is petitioning the Obama Administration to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a Federal holiday. They state in their petition that the day off would "promote camaraderie among the American people, keep the streets safer for our children on Sunday night and Monday morning, promote a productive workplace when work resumes on Tuesday, and honor the most popular event in modern American culture."
The petition probably won't prompt any action in time for Super Bowl XLVII set to kick off February 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, but they do hope to draw enough online signatures to prompt a response from the White House.
