New Rail Project Could Be Good For Gamblers

Posted: Updated:
Palmdale, CA -

For months now we've been reporting on the state's controversial High-Speed Rail system from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Theoretically, it costs $68 billion at least, with groundbreaking at least six months away.

The state has yet to purchase one acre of farmland for the initial 130 mile route through the Central Valley, yet those running this project say not to worry. With that as the backdrop, there is yet another high-speed train in the works -- this one from Palmdale and Victorville to Las Vegas. Dubbed "Xpress West'' this one is "only" $6.9 billion and the business interests running that one will be applying for a federal loan.

There was a summit Monday in Palmdale on the Vegas project, mainly to educate business types about how to get in on the action to get jobs and generate money for the region.

There is no real firm timetable for this one, but since it doesn't seem to involve taxpayer dollars directly it will likely generate a lot of support, while Governor Brown seems to be one of the lone voices clinging to the concept of the San Fran/ LA rail that voters approved way back in 2008.

We'll stay on both of these projects.
