Osceola County Sheriff's deputies arrested a registered felon, and charged her with child neglect, after her 8-year-old son was found wandering the streets. Yoelin Silva, 27, told deputies she had been arrested previously for another incident involving her son.
The investigation began Saturday morning when the Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a child walking near the railroad tracks near Tallahassee Boulevard and Old Tampa Highway in Kissimmee.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a witness who indicated he was leaving the Intercession City Post Office when he saw a young child walking alongside the train tracks. The witness followed the child to the area of Manatee Street. Deputies were able to locate the child, but he did not want to cooperate with deputies, because he thought he would get in trouble.
Deputies located the boy's home on Manatee Street and spoke with his mother who told them she thought her child was visiting a friend. She admitted to being asleep, even though she had other children in the home, deputies said.
Based on the information, deputies arrested Silva and notified the Department of Children and Families. Silva was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
